Brand Monitoring Tools in the Age of AI
Knowing what people say on social and in the press is no longer enough. There is a new channel shaping opinions: what AI answers when asked about your brand.
Monitoring a brand has always meant listening. Listening to what is said on social media, in the press, on forums, in customer reviews. For years those were the sources that mattered, and listening tools were built around them. The problem is that the map of where an opinion forms has just changed.
Today many people do not search for opinions, they ask for them. They ask ChatGPT which supplier to choose, Perplexity whether a brand is trustworthy, Gemini what alternatives exist. The answer they get shapes their decision, and that answer appears in no traditional listening tool.
What classic monitoring already covers
None of the old approach should be thrown away, it is still necessary. A solid monitoring base watches:
- Social media: mentions, tone, conversation spikes, emerging crises.
- Press and media: where you are talked about and in what terms.
- Reviews: reputation on Google, marketplaces and sector platforms.
- Forums and communities: conversations where people genuinely compare.
All of it shares one logic: these are places where people publish trackable text. Classic monitoring is good at that.
The missing front
AI introduces something different. When a model answers about your brand, it is not publishing anywhere trackable: it generates the answer in the moment, for that user, and it vanishes. There is no post to capture. To know what it says, you have to ask it yourself, systematically and repeatedly.
And what it says matters a lot, for two reasons:
- It arrives at the moment of decision, when someone is choosing.
- It comes with the implicit endorsement of an assistant the user perceives as neutral.
A criticism on social media you can see and respond to. A bad recommendation from a chatbot you never even see, unless you go looking for it.
What a modern tool must cover
If you are choosing or renewing your monitoring setup today, the AI layer is no longer an optional extra. A complete tool should give you a picture of both worlds.
What it has to cover today
- Classic listening: social, press, reviews, forums
- AI layer: what ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Claude say about your brand
- Sentiment: not just whether you are named, but how you are described
- Comparison: whether you are recommended against your competitors
- Tracking over time, not isolated snapshots
One platform does not always cover it all. It is common to combine a social listening tool with a dedicated one for the AI layer. Bee LLM, for example, focuses on that second front: it measures daily, in Spanish, how the four main engines treat you. The point is not to leave that gap unwatched.
Why it is no longer optional
A couple of years ago, ignoring what AI said about your brand was debatable but defensible: few people asked. That is no longer true. Assistant adoption is growing fast, and with it the number of decisions that pass through a generated answer. Measuring only social and press is watching half the conversation. The other half is already happening, you are just not listening to it.
